How Big Money Corrupts
Drug Prices
< Go back

Why do Americans pay anywhere from 1.7 to 2.9 times more for medications than other countries in North America and Europe while the drug industry is the most profitable in the country?

Thanks to the more than $18.2 million in contributions from pharmaceutical companies in the 1997-'99 election cycle, 65% to Republicans. This process pushed aside Medicare reforms that would lower prices and improve access for the 14 million seniors who lack proper drug coverage. Also, the U.S. is the only industrialized nation that doesn't regulate drug prices!
